Making & CARE-ing Imperfectly
CARE is open for registration. The deadline is November 10.
Let’s be in community together. Let’s be imperfect and generous of spirit. Let’s push back against the pressures of isolationism and domination and hierarchy in this collective nest of sharing and support.
Making Peace with Failure
My Seattle retreat isn’t happening. I could tell you a tale of how this came to be that made it seem like a straightforward choice to cancel. I could spin a yarn about how the timing wasn’t right or the stars didn’t align or it wasn’t meant to be. Instead, I’m going to be straightforward about it. And in the name of further transparency, I want to use it as a little case study on making peace with failure.
How My Cornucopia Year is Going
I want to take a moment here at the midpoint of the year to reflect on and celebrate some of my achievements in the first half of the year gone by.
CARE Commences
CARE is underway! The initial cohort of the Consortium of Arts Related Entrepreneurs (CARE) has been coming together for just over a month now, and I’m so impressed with and inspired by this group of people.
My Cornucopia Year
The cornucopia spirit is one of bounty and flourishing, where nourishment can be found for the mind, body, heart, and bank account. For those who choose to partake omnivorously, compassionate thriving and a suite of surprises await.
Welcome to CARE
where people working on their own don’t have to work alone
The Consortium of Arts Related Entrepreneurs (CARE) is a 6-month long community (February–August 2023) where independent arts and culture workers join together virtually to learn, teach, support each other, and build entrepreneurial skills.
Percolate & Cultivate
Percolate: My ideas have been steeping and infusing me with plans like the rich red-brown of tea leaves curling through hot water.
Cultivate: Cultivating requires action, but it can’t be rushed. It can only happen at the pace the plant is ready for. And when done steady and well, it’s what creates those resilient, tender-firm, green, little shoots that poke their heads up toward the sun and thrive.
Why Pirate?
When systems of work and rest and health and politics are cracking everywhere we look, I’m steering into my belief that there are other ways to be in the world. That I can make ways for meaning and value and inspiration that don’t rely on the same faulty pillars that are crumbling all around us.
I’m choosing freedom. I’m choosing to be a pirate.
Life Philosophy from the Train
What is still most deeply here to push me forward is my curiosity and my eclecticism and my talent for connection.
My ‘normal routine’ right now is to work at accepting that I don’t know what’s coming next and to forge ahead as bravely and transparently as I can.
Interchange In Person
The next iteration of Interchange (my series of workshops) is happening IN PERSON, and it’s called Adventure | Reflection.
What can we learn about ourselves if we approach an experience as an adventure? In this in-person session, we will explore new and familiar surroundings while we let curiosity and serendipity take the lead.
