#RSRSeesTheUSA Day 41: Oakhurst, CA
It’s my last day in Oakhurst near Yosemite before heading to San Francisco. It’s felt nice to spend more time here and to have two full days inside the park itself.
So how did I spend my last day here?
I lounged in bed reading. I did my taxes. I went to the movies. I sat on my Airbnb porch and read a bunch of Emily St John Mandel’s new book, Sea of Tranquility.
It felt really needed and welcome to spend a day pretty much totally at restorative rest. I’m about to head back into an urban space for a few days, and I’ve been on two significant hiking days in the past week, and and I’ve been on the road for almost a month and a half at this point.
And, most importantly, I don’t have to justify my desire for rest to myself.
So, in the spirit of slowing down and resting and not continuing to push and go and do, here’s a list of resource recommendations:
The Nap Ministry, a very excellent organization founded and led by Tricia Hersey encouraging rest as resistance
How to Do Nothing, a book by Jenny Odell, subtitled “Resisting the Attention Economy”
Hurry Slowly, a podcast by Jocelyn K Glei with many different people talking thoughtfully about how to slow down
I Didn’t Do the Thing Today, a book by Madeleine Dore that is cued up as my next audiobook as this trip continues
And here is a gallery of tree bark close-up photos that I took in the sequoia and redwood groves yesterday. The steady, slow strength of those trees and their associated symbiotic species was a good motivator for today’s day of rest.
