#RSRSeesTheUSA Day 32: Solvang, CA & Pacific Coast Highway
Here’s the live view of where I’m writing this blog post and camping tonight. Remember how I said I was looking forward to getting out of the big city? Camping in a tent in a canyon orchard sure is scratching that itch. I’m all set up at See Canyon Fruit Ranch in the middle of an orchard. Aaaahhhhh… sigh of shoulders relaxing.
And here’s the soundtrack (minus the nearby turkeys and peacocks I can also hear periodically).
It was a beautiful (HOT) day to drive up the Pacific Coast Highway, including a spontaneous stop at Zuma Beach to sit and watch the waves for a while in the morning. Definitely a day of “detoxing” from the city with a return to solo nature time, which felt really nice.
The one notable exception to a day full of glorious nature was a stop in Solvang, California. Which is like… a Danish theme park town????? Although the Amber & Viking Museum was sadly closed, there was still plenty to scratch my head at. Hamlet Square? Scandinavian architecture? I always find the juxtapositions odd when there are buildings like this arbitrarily plopped down somewhere and now occupied by contemporary places like a Subway sandwich shop.
Oddities of the road is one of my prime road trip goals. This stop definitely was that.
OK, it’s night time at the campsite and I’m going to curl up in my sleeping bag and read while the frogs serenade me to sleep.
It’s hot and cloudless here, so instead of a cloud of the day, I’m giving you bonus soundscape + video of the day: the waves at Zuma Beach.
