How I do and do not use AI

A person with teal-colored hair makes a playful shrugging gesture towards the camera. They are positioned next to a bright green sign with black text that reads "you are curious."

I am a skeptical optimist about new technologies, including AI. I like to explore how tools might be useful and think critically about the repercussions of that use.

Curiosity and strategy are two of my core values, after all.

With that in mind, I am using some AI tools in considered, limited ways to help me in my business. Right now, that looks like this:

How I do use AI:

Claude (free) helps me:

  • adapt text I’ve written to adjust its tone

  • synthesize large amounts of information and find common threads in it

  • title emails and blog posts

  • reformat information I’ve written for various application requirements

  • NOTE: my default instructions to Claude include the following: Prioritize my writing style when I input text. It's OK if things are a little shaggy and wordy unless I tell you to tighten up the language. Things should generally feel thoughtful, strategic, warm, and a little playful.

Fathom (free) helps me take notes and create transcripts on occasional video calls.

AltTexty.org helps me generate image descriptions for accessibility across my website.

How I don’t use AI:

I write all my content myself. While I may make minor adjustments to that content based on prompts I give to Claude, all writing from me begins as text I have written on my own.

DuckDuckGo NOAI is my search engine, and I avoid AI search summaries as much as possible.

I do not pay for any AI-first tools.

No images or visuals in my materials are created with AI tools.

I do not give client information to LLMs without the client’s express permission.
