Uncertainty Coaching

for Organizations

Transform uncertainty from deluge to dance partner.

Equip your organization to sail with uncertainty instead of white-knuckling through it.

Dark ocean waves under a cloudy, overcast sky.

Your people are good at their jobs. That's not the problem.

The problem is most of them (and maybe you, too) were trained with an assumption that things will eventually settle down.

Budgets will stabilize.
Operations will steady.
Morale will maintain.
Eventually, the waves will calm.

The thing is, those waves never really calm for good. Only, if you’re lucky, until the next upheaval storm whips them up again.

The gap between the calm-wave expectation your people were trained for and the unknown storms they're actually facing is where burnout lives.

You can't hire or strategic-plan your way out of that gap.

Instead, you can build the internal capacity to chart your own course through it.

Aimed at clarity instead of certainty

A large ocean wave curling and crashing with white foam at the crest, dark stormy sky in the background.

Most internal training programs try to create control with frameworks, five-year plans, and false promises of future certainty.

Wayfinder Uncertainty Coaching starts from a different premise:

Uncertainty is more than a temporary storm you're waiting out. It's the water your organization is, and always will be, immersed in.

The goal is to help your people develop a different, real relationship to the unknown. Where a hard question doesn't demand instant resolution, where they can hold complexity without collapsing under it, where "I don't know yet" feels like a next step rather than a crisis.

That’s a mindset shift that can be taught.

And when it is, you get clearer decision-making, more creativity in the face of thorny problems, and teams who can ride new waves instead of resisting them.

Also, not incidentally, you get people who are more likely to stay.

Designed for whole people, in groups with each other

It’s time to expand beyond the typical individual, cognitive professional development.

Instead of passing on purely intellectual content to absorb and a binder of resources that will gather dust on employee shelves, Wayfinder Uncertainty Coaching works differently.

Sessions engage the body along with the mind, and they happen in small groups to harness the added benefit of collective wisdom. Not only is uncertainty harder to sit with alone, it’s easier to live with if you know others in the same boat with you.

The philosophy and design of this program is meant to embed into your work culture in a way a one-off keynote or a day-long retreat won't manage.

Change happens in relationship, live, together.

The core program is informed by your institution's specific context before the first session happens. It then follows a path of six live 90-minute virtual sessions.

Optional 1:1 coaching sessions may be added for participants.

Depending on what you need, Wayfinder Uncertainty Coaching can look like:

Three tracks, charted for where you need them

A sandy beach with calm ocean water and blue sky with scattered clouds.

Departmental Team

For a team burdened by institutional flux, whether that's turnover, a reorg, or the burnout of doing more with less. When a team learns to move with uncertainty together, no single person has to keep holding everyone together.

Builds a department’s shared language and collective capacity for change.

Leadership Group

For the department heads and directors across your institution who are each fielding their own version of the same pressure, often without space to compare notes. This track builds shared footing and breaks down silos.

Staffs a leadership bench where no one is reinventing how to stay steady, alone.

Board Cohort

For the people setting direction at the highest level, where the stakes of getting this wrong feel highest and the room for candor is often smallest. When boards learn how to shift with uncertainty, their organizations gain resiliency for the long run.

Develops adaptive leadership skills for this moment and beyond.

The building blocks of Wayfinder Uncertainty Coaching

  • Six live, 90-minute virtual sessions, scheduled over a time frame that works for your organization

  • A small group (6–10 suggested), so there's room to build real trust

  • No required homework between sessions; showing up to the live calls is the commitment

  • A private digital resource hub, plus optional readings for anyone who wants to go deeper

  • Session recordings available on a time-limited basis, for anyone who needs to miss a call (life happens)

*It's not just a bit. In the face of rigid, unequal systems, historical pirate crews built entirely new ones: collective health coverage, equitable profit-sharing, alternative command structures centuries before "flat org chart" was a trendy phrase. I bring that same energy to institutions still running on inherited hierarchies that don't serve them anymore.

Meet Your Adventurous Captain

I’m Rachel Ropeik, and I spent more than twenty years working inside major cultural institutions, including the Guggenheim, the Brooklyn Museum, MoMA, and the Met, before shifting to independent work in 2021. Now I create training, retreats, and courses that help people and organizations get more comfortable dancing with uncertainty and change.

Colleagues have suggested titles for me including Chief Empathy Funkster and Curator of Prismatic Experience. On my business card, I call myself an educator, adventurer, facilitator, experience builder, and pirate, meaning someone who builds new systems instead of continuing to work within broken old ones.*

That same playful, strategic instinct shapes every Wayfinder Uncertainty Coaching session: structured enough to be useful, surprising enough to shake some real learning loose.

What institutional clients say

We shifted from looking backward to looking forward

“Our conversations … shifted from backward looking ‘this isn't working and here are examples of what is going wrong’ to forward looking ‘here are next steps and tangible new approaches to try.’”

Incredible thought leader

“Rachel is an incredible thought leader. She is a joy to work with because she is proactive and patient… She listens and she approaches her work comprehensively. She ‘knows her stuff’ and you walk away from her feeling encouraged and like a weight has been lifted.”

Stacey Shelnut-Hendrick, Deputy Director of Public Engagement and Learning, Chrysler Museum of Art

Set sail with a conversation

It’s time to hoist the anchor and catch the wind

Uncertainty isn't going away, and there’s no way to control it.

What you can control is whether your people are equipped to meet it, or whether they're burning out trying to force a calm they don't feel.

This work begins with a conversation.

Let's talk about what your team or organization is actually navigating right now, and whether Wayfinder Uncertainty Coaching is the right fit to help.
